Following our time at Mapungubwe National Park we headed southwest for a further four nights at Marakele National Park. Here we had another productive period as far as bird watching is concerned, ticking 101 species of the 360+ that has been recorded in the Park to date.

Wow! That’s a lot of species in one area. I liked the magpie shrike, two of my favorite species.
And we still missed more than we saw, going by the official list of species recorded in the Park. Reason to return again!
That Southern Boubou is gorgeous!
And you should hear it sing, Kathy!
I’ll have to google it!
Another avian feast to enjoy. I like the Southern Boubou in your header for we have a pair that visits our garden almost daily. I enjoy seeing the variety of birds ‘up north’ from us – they used to be so familiar to me 🙂
Isn’t it wonderful that we have such a rich diversity of biomes, and consequently a rich variety of birds, in South Africa!?
Sjoe, dis ‘n klomp wat jy kon afmerk Dries! Ongelooflik om al die verskeidenheid te sien! Jy en Joubert kan maar! 😀
Jy is baie gaaf, Aletta. Baie dankie!
😊
I’m so proud of Joubert! He’s has the knack for photographing birds. He’s learning so quickly and well. You have a son that will make a name in South Africa, D. I’m so glad! 🙂
From your lips to God’s ears! Thank you, H.J!
Some very beautiful birds–the violet-eared waxbill, especially. Great photos, Joubert!
Birds are a delight with their different shapes, sizes and colours!
