Driving around the Kruger National Park, especially along one of the major rivercourses, you’re bound to come across a troop or two of baboons. Watching their behaviour and especially their human-like interactions is extremely entertaining.
We encountered this little group one afternoon along the Shingwedzi River, during our September 2014 visit. While the big male watched, sometimes with what seemed like considerable concern for their well-being, the energetic little ones were clambering into a small tree and jumping down again, over and over again, their happiness clearly written all over their faces…

Ek dink nie eers mens se kinners kans so lekker baljaar nie!! 😉
How fun to watch them play! Thank you so much for sharing. 🙂
It is our pleasure Amy, we’re only too thankful that you’d spend some time with us!
I admire your passion and commitment for nature. Many of us have had the privilege of visiting these majestic places and see animals through your lens. Thank you for your effort! And, thank you for coming to my site and give me your support.
So wonderful that your path has intersected with ours Amy. We really appreciate your warm comments, this one being a shining example. Thank you.
Kids will be kids! Those little monkeys! 😀
Whether they normally walk on two feet or four, there’s no holding back the fun!
Love these! 🙂
Thank you Laurel!
You had me at Kruger National Park 🙂 Just wow.
Of course every corner of this world has its special places, but for me this one has always been bucket-list material.
I hope to get there one day soon. Until then I’ll keep enjoying your great photos!
You are most welcome to tag along with us Norman, hopefully it will be just the push you need to make your way to our shores!
Brilliant photo’s guys – observing primates is one of our favourite things when they are around. It’s because they displays so many human treats I guess? Never forget a troop patrolling the banks of the Timbavati river in the early morning – the infantry patrolling the high banks while the kids were playing in the dry riverbed. Just absolutely switched on.
Agreed Maurice! Easy to see so much of ourselves, the good and the bad, in our primate family.
Dis sulke oulike foto’s,Dries! Dis was ‘n vreeslike geskree!
I’ve always thought their antics were fascinating but you totally managed to capture them in action beautifully. Marks and I have been participating in our Biketoberfest, one of our two motorcycle events in the area so have had no time for posting. We might take a break tomorrow to take a breather. Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend dear friends.
Joey
Careful Joey, you’re on that motorcycle so often you’ll soon need a new saddle! Just kidding, I’m glad you and Marks are having a great time together in the outdoors 😀
Enjoy the ‘fest, and the weekend ahead. Hope you have great weather – we’ve had massive sandstorms across much of the country this week, hopefully the rains will come soon.
So cute! just like little kids.
Absolutely Lois. Entirely carefree, leave the worrying to mom and dad.
What a classic sequence of shots. Just love the old man looking on.
Thank you very much Wilf. I’m sure the poor dad must have skipped a couple of heartbeats…
Great photo story. How wonderful to take ample time to observe this family of baboons in their natural habitat. This is a treasure.
-Jane
Thanks Jane! It’s moments like these that keep luring us back to the wild every chance we get. I’m sure you understand 😉
They are so cute!!
Thanks Janaline! Very cute and very energetic, even in the afternoon heat!
Hoor! Hoor!
