Pinacopteryx eriphia
The Zebra White is another butterfly that is distributed over much of South Africa, and is found in pockets of all our provinces. It doesn’t appear to be numerous anywhere though. It inhabits arid scrub and thickets, warmer grasslands and savanna habitats. Adults have a wingspan of between 4 and 5cm and can be seen throughout the year. They usually fly slow and very close to the ground but can accelerate very quickly to escape danger when required.

Baie interessant Dries! Ek moet bieg! Weet nie veel van skoenlappers nie maar dis pragtig!
Dis ook maar eers onlangs wat die wereld van ons skoenlappers vir my oopgegaan het, Aletta!
Mooi foto’s (veral daar tussen die helder blomme). Kan jy dink wat ‘n deurmekaar spul dit gaan wees as hierdie skoenlappertjie op ‘n grote sebra moet gaan sit 😉.

Such lovely photographs, however, I admit to exclaiming happily at the Pride-of-de-Kaap flowers in the background: blooms of my childhood ever present in my memories of growing up in the Lowveld 🙂
The more I collect butterfly pictures the more I realise that the Pride-of-de-Kaap / Vlam-van-die-Vlakte is a real magnet for these insects and I should get one for our garden!
Nooit besef daar is nog ‘n verskeidenheid van die wit en swart skoenlappertjies nie. Nooit eintlik gedink om regtig te kyk hoe hul lyk nie.
Ons land het regtig n ryker verskeidenheid skoenlappers as wat n leek hom sou voostel, Ineke. Ek geniet dit om hulle te soek en van hulle te leer.
Beslis waar. Dis ook so met die voëllewe. Vir baie mense is iets wat vlieg ‘n mossie selfde met skoenlappers.
