The Isimangaliso Wetland Park, and especially when using Cape Vidal as a base, really offers the best combination of both bush and beach you could hope for.

Dis omtrent ‘n samedromming van olifante hier! Pragtige foto’s!
Baie dankie, Corna. Ons geluk was regtig in met die olifante hierdie keer.
What a fabulous run of photos!! That sleepy warthog is a delight and the series of elephant photos amazing. I simply never tire of looking at these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Your photos bring great joy…🥰
Seeing them in the wild is one of our biggest joys too, Lori. Elephants are such charismatic creatures and deserve to be respected.
Hi Dries, lovely photos. What is that lovely bird that looks like a gull or tern?
Thanks, Tracy!
It is a grey-headed gull.
I hope things have settled at your end?
Yep, the good news is that my husband is much better, Dries. The bad news is that he is not allowed to drive for six months!
Wonderful to hear he is on the mend! We wish him a speedy and complete recovery and you are in our thoughts as well!
Dancing and prancing, flying and glancing … you have covered them all between you with marvellous photographs.
That sounds like a line from the Gummi Bears theme tune, Anne! Thanks for the kind comment, as always.
Talking about heavy traffic on the roads! The elephants believe the roads are for them and you are obstructioners with your machines. Great photos all. Thank you, my friends. 🙂
You are absolutely right, H.J. And of course because we are visitors to their home we need to be respectful!
I love the roadblock, much more fun than cattle the run stupidly down the middle of the road bawling and pooping while still blocking the way. 🙂 The sleepy warthog is a classic and made me chuckle.
We love watching elephants “own” the road, Janet. Their confident attitudes really is marvelous to witness.
More brilliant pictures! The elephants appear to be rather assertive – certainly very impressive. Love the dance moves! That photo of the grey-headed gull in flight is beautiful.
Thanks, Carol!
We’ve had more luck with elephant encounters on this trip to Cape Vidal than on any of the many we’ve had before. But it is clear that they’re not yet used to people and vehicles as their counterparts in other more visited parks and reserves. We keep a respectful distance, like most other visitors, but a few visitors, in their rush to get to the beach, take unnecessary chances.
Yes they do need our respect.
