This sighting of a Green-backed Heron catching dragonflies in a small stream near Satara in the Kruger National Park reminded me of the “Karate Kid” scene where Mr. Miyagi tries catching flies with his chopsticks…

Love it!
Was exhilarating to watch, and I never thought he’d be successful – he showed me!
Wow! Really impressive photos of the dragonfly catch!
It’s snatching a dragonfly mid-flight that’s the really impressive feat!
Yes, very true! And the fact that you were there to see it happen!
That was wonderful indeed!
Oh, well done…both of you. 🙂

Thank you, Janet!
A very interesting sequence of photographs!
Thank you, Anne. It really was one of the most enjoyable encounters of our trip.
What great images!
Thank you, P J B. They’re grainy due to the low light, but at least they show this heron’s ingenuity, perseverance and success!
Yeah, grain really doesn’t bother me at all in this case. It’s all about the story here in my opinion.
Thank you very much, again!
Te oulik en pragtige aksiefoto’s, Dries! Wat ‘n belewenis om dit te sien!
Baie dankie, Dina.
clever Heron
Sharp-shooter!
Great shots, Dries! You had to be pretty quick, as well. Such a pretty bird.
The low light meant the pictures came out a bit (well, a lot) grainy, but at least I could show the action. Thank you, Jane!
That’s a good catch! This guy should be a baseball player! 🙂
I never imagined that he’d be successful – and then he proved me wrong!
