This lioness was using the bridge outside Lower Sabie in the Kruger National Park as her own personal catwalk, settling down to give her adoring fans some close up views of her beauty – and I was lucky to get a front-row seat!
But lions aren’t always such show-offs – sometimes they like to keep their distance, and other times they lie hidden in plain sight…

‘n Lekker pens verwarmer!! 😉
Daai tyd van die oggend by Onder-Sabie brand die son al woes warm!
Its hard to tell if she relishes the attention or she simply doesn’t give a damn. Regal to the core, either way.
You are so right, Carol, and it was amazing to be in such a presence!
She is beautiful. The queen of her domain.
And she clearly knew it, Siobhan – she knew all those people queuing on the bridge were there just to adore her!
I can see why she stopped traffic! And that’s not a catty remark. Or is it? 🙂
janet
I’m sure like all supermodels she has her tantrums too! 😀
So majestic!
And she knows it, Sue!
Lekker lui
Ek dink sy geniet die aandag, Tina.
I know I’ve said it many times, but there’s just something about a cat – either big or small. She’s a beauty! 💕
Thankfully this lady was in the mood for attention!
Wow, your photos are amazing. I especially love the one where she’s just lying in the road without a care in the world. 😊
Thank you, Susan – very kind of you!
Lying around secure in the knowledge that they’re in charge is something lions are quite adept at!
So cool that you have to go single file to get around a cat. It looks like it was weighing up lunch options in the 3rd pic 🤣
Nice to be in a place where people still respect nature that much, Jez!
And yes, that lone buffalo bull certainly was an option for lunch – at one point I genuinely expected her to turn around and go after him, until she flopped down in regal repose…
Ah, the lure of the lion! Glad you had such a good view.
As much as we know there’s so much more to a Kruger visit than the “Big Five”, seeing the big cats is always a thrill, isn’t it Anne?
You know you have an unfair advantage with lions around to photograph, right de Wets?!
Thanks, Tina!
😀
Yes, and it’s an advantage we’re going to exploit fully!
😀
wow
She is a stunner, hey Gavin!?
Very beautiful
fabulous
Absolutely! 😀
That’s royalty.
Oh so definitely, Linda!
Whoa! 🙂
Glad she has the same effect on you as she did on me, H.J.!
wonderful post
Thank you very much
We are both channeling royalty this week! I had King Chunk and you have this very lovely Queen. This is something that happens…..quite often? Best seat in the house!
And no-one seems to know her royal status better than herself! This is indeed a regular scene in the Kruger Park, Lois – one of the reasons why we and thousands of other people visit over and over and over.
Amazing to be so close to a lion!😊
It truly is, John, and thankfully it happens quite regularly when you visit the Kruger National Park!
