A week ago, on an early morning drive along the Sand River near Skukuza in the Kruger National Park, this magnificent male lion popped out of the thickets to patrol and mark his territory along the road.
After spending quite a bit of time with him as he walked at pace along the river road, mostly within arm’s length of the vehicle, another car arrived on the scene, and I drove off in order to allow them the thrill of some alone time with The King as well.

Very kind of you to let others share moments with the King!
It is such a rare privilege, Hien, and I am sure they appreciated the opportunity as much as I did!
Fantastic, thank you for sharing . 🙂
Our pleasure entirely!
Mmmmm… the thoughtful lion sharer… such a considerate gent!! 😉 😛 😉
It’s such a special experience; how could I not?
So majestic!
Absolutely!
He’s a healthy big boy!
Indeed he is, despite showing quite a bit of “wear-and-tear”!
Wow! Gorgeous!
They are so majestic!
Without a doubt!
De Wet, ek dink ń mens raak diep in jouself as jy die tyd gegun word saam met so ń manjifieke skepping van die Here.
Absoluut! Was n seen om in n land te bly waar sulke ervaringe maklik toeganklik is.
What a great privilege to be able to spend some time with this magnificent king of beasts, Dries. Great photos. 🙂
Thanks Sylvia! Indeed a great thrill!
Incredible Story and photos thankyou for sharing…so interesting.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed this piece so! We really enjoy sharing experiences like these.
Good gosh–look at the paws on him! Magnificent photos. No wonder he is the King.
He is enormous and powerful for sure!
what a lovely outing! it’s so nice when the king is allowed to roam his rightful territory without fear of harm… and so very nice when the humans give him the respect he deserves… wouldn’t it be grand if he could ride in BB’s place while you escorted him thru his territory?!!!
