As your post of 14th July 2014 shows, Harry Wolhuter discovered that lions are not that afraid of humans. The one he killed with a knife was purring in anticipation of dining on him.
By day and by night their responses to humans differs as much as, well, day and night! In daylight they’ll normally give people a wide berth, but at night the tables are turned – or should that be set?

Yep, he looks p-o’d alright. We had one that false-charged us in Kafue, Zambia. But I was told he was “afraid” of us, and that lions are for the most part afraid of humans. This by a lion researcher. I guess I had a hard time believing him, especially since we were on foot and our armed guard started to turn tail and run before he caught himself. I just hid behind a tree and shot, haha!
Wow Michael, what a campfire story that makes! Please “private message” me the name of that guide, if I ever make it to Kafue I’d rather not go walking with him! On foot people quickly trigger a lion’s flight-or-fight response.
