This caracal was hiding next to the road in the Oribi Gorge, in Kwazulu-Natal Province – had it’s eyes not reflected in our headlights as we rounded a bend, it would have gone totally unnoticed.
We’re participating in the online adventure travel and photography magazine LetsBeWild.com‘s Wild Weekly Photo Challenge for bloggers. This week’s challenge is “Overlooked“

Well spotted and quite scary
Thank you for dropping by pommepal!
Wow! That could easily have been overlooked. Good eye!, as they say in baseball.
Thank you so very much Cuidado!
Great capture Dries. Strangely my domestic cats eyes reflect the same way when photographed at night. This is so cool though. I’ve never seen on in the bush. Hope you guys are having a great day.
Joey
Thank you very much Joey!
Yep, its as if their eyes have little fires burning inside isn’t it!
We had a lovely sunny day today – hope you and Marks also have a good one!
Grey, rainy and windy here for the past couple of days but we’re not complaining. The plants are enjoying the rain. Wishing you a beautiful weekend. Time sure is flying these days.
Joey
And a lovely weekend to you and Marks as well dear Joey!
I have been trying to spot a caracal for years now. You are very lucky to have seen this
Thanks killaval. We’ve only seen caracal 4 or 5 times in all the years – hard to imagine that they are considered pests by many in the farming community for causing small stock losses, but then that just proves how excellent they are at hiding!
Beautiful! there’s always something primal about seeing a cat’s eyes in the night!
Thank you Z! Especially the big cats have such hipnotic gazes, it’s as if they’re looking straight into your soul…
