Time off

Time away from work and school.

Time to allow the warm glow of an African sunset to rejuvenate body and mind.

We’re spending a long weekend in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park!

The Golden Hour

Not only is the first and last hours of daylight – the “Golden Hours” – the best for photography, but it is also the best time to be out searching for the big cats in South Africa’s wild places, like this leopard we encountered near Cape Vidal, in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

World Wetlands Day 2013

Annually, the 2nd of February is celebrated as World Wetlands Day to highlight the important role wetlands play in improving water quality, reducing flood damage, controlling erosion and storing fresh water. In recognition of the day we are posting some more images from one of South Africa’s most important wetland areas – the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

Beyond (1)

A leopard stalking warthogs near Cape Vidal in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The leopard’s attack proved fruitless and in the end the hogs had their revenge, chasing the leopard back into the dune forest.

Our 2012 in Pictures

For the final challenge of 2012, we decided to submit a selection of photographs of the various accommodation units we stayed in while exploring South Africa’s wild places this year (you can click on the images for a clearer view).

Texture in Nature

For this week’s Wild Weekly Photo Challenge for bloggers, by online adventure travel magazine LetsBeWild.com, themed “Texture in Nature“, we decided on submitting a collection of shots depicting the intertidal pools of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Few people fail to be fascinated by the wildlife hiding away in these seashore retreats – perhaps because it is a window into a world so vastly different from our own?
