I am impressed how many species of birds you find on your treks. Your patience and vision far exceed my abilities. I wonder how many species in this gallery are local only to your continent.

South Africa is home to about 10% of all the kinds of birds in the world, John – we are indeed very fortunate in that sense. Many of them occur here and nowhere else. It is fascinating to me that some birds – and even insects – have colonized almost the whole planet!

Central America is also a haven for unusual bird species. We saw many in Costa Rica, but I must say, the most interesting species I’ve seen were on our visit to your country.

I can say the same about you, Janet! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and that 2025 will be a year in which you will be blessed beyond every expectation.
