Summer Trek – Stony Point & Agulhas, 21 December 2024

A terribly wet and windy morning saw us heading westwards, to the ever popular African Penguin colony at Stony Point Nature Reserve in Betty’s Bay.

Later, after a hearty lunch in the hamlet of Baardskeerdersbos, we headed to the Agulhas National Park and Africa’s southernmost point (enjoying it in much better weather than we had at the start of the day!).

Welcome to my neck of the woods. We’re not there at the moment as we are with family in Plett. Enjoy the rest of your stay and remember to look for the stingrays in Struisbaai Harbour. Sometimes Otters visit too.

Stony Point is, like Boulders we visited in Cape Town, unique in that it is a penguin breeding colony on the mainland and right on the urban edge, John. Both offer great opportunity to see the endangered birds. Stony Point is about 2 hours drive from the Boulders colony we visited together.
