A terribly wet and windy morning saw us heading westwards, to the ever popular African Penguin colony at Stony Point Nature Reserve in Betty’s Bay.

Later, after a hearty lunch in the hamlet of Baardskeerdersbos, we headed to the Agulhas National Park and Africa’s southernmost point (enjoying it in much better weather than we had at the start of the day!).

Oh those Penguins! Well worth the doggy weather. So cool to be amongst such interesting birds. Happy holidays from Ruth in Pittsburgh
I think I meant soggy weather but doggy works….
Happy Holidays, Ruth!
Yes indeed, they’re such charismatic characters!
It is always good to see penguins 🙂
My mom loves watching them via the Wild Earth webcam, so we just had to take her to see them in real life
Welcome to my neck of the woods. We’re not there at the moment as we are with family in Plett. Enjoy the rest of your stay and remember to look for the stingrays in Struisbaai Harbour. Sometimes Otters visit too.
I thought about The Earl and you while we were driving through Struisbaai!
Is Stony Point the place we visited to see the penguins or is that another protected grounds?
Stony Point is, like Boulders we visited in Cape Town, unique in that it is a penguin breeding colony on the mainland and right on the urban edge, John. Both offer great opportunity to see the endangered birds. Stony Point is about 2 hours drive from the Boulders colony we visited together.
