Out Satara’s gates at 04:30 this morning, we didn’t have to wait too long before finding a mating pair of lions right in the road. Our afternoon drive didn’t yield the same results, mostly due to a very welcome drizzle setting in. We were however welcomed back to camp by Satara’s habituated African Wild Cat.

Lovely sightings! Great to see the wild cat. We didn’t see it at Satara but a few years ago there was one at Skukuza camp. In 2017 I came face to face with one at Tsendze camp just outside the ablution block, but this year did not see it.
They were exceedingly difficult to spot, but seem to be getting more and more frequenty seen!

We have also enjoyed the presence of (possibly the same one) a wild cat near our camp at Satara. It tolerates company from a distance, seeks shade under vehicles, yet I have never seen it trying to filch food or ingratiate with human company.
We watched this one hoping to catch an unwary swift as they swooped near their nests at a communal kitchen!
The male lion is such a handsome animal. These big cats have so much power behind the serene expression and innocence of their eyes. Great post, D. 🙂

I swear the animals all say, ‘Gather round, chaps, de Wet is coming and you can be film stars!’ I would travel all day and only see a couple of impala.
Maybe we should start organising tours for all our loyal supporters, like yourself!
