Joubert and I have been planning a father-and-son camping trip to beautiful Kgaswane Mountain Reserve, and invited a few other dads and their sons to join us there this past weekend. It’s amazing just how quickly a weekend in the fresh mountain air surrounded by amazing scenery can fly past, especially when you have good company! I am also happy to report that we didn’t miss out on Kgaswane’s majestic sable antelope this time! Have a read here to learn more about Kgaswane.

Love to go wandering around with you in the wilds (virtually that is!) and i had no idea where Kgawane is situated. Now you’ve put it on the map for me. So great to read of the father/son adventures, i’m thinking there’s a tradition here?
Definitely a tradition for the de Wets, Liz, learnt from my late Dad. Joubert and I have had a couple such trips, and seems our group has just gotten bigger thanks to great friendships with like-minded dads and their boys.
Dit is so ‘n wonderlike ondervinding vir ‘n seun!!
Absoluut Aletta! Ek onthou my uitkamp-trips saam met my Pa nog altyd, en ek hoop vir hierdie seuntjies sal dit ook so wees.
Those antelope certainly are magnificent. I’m glad you had fun and also that we could share a bit of the fun with you.

We were looking forward to the weekend in great anticipation and it delivered beautifully from start to finish!
I always love your photos and posts. I hope to go to South Africa some day and see some of it for myself. I have nominated you for the Real Neat Blog Award. If you don’t accept I understand, I just wanted you to know that I love what you do!
Thank you so very much, we really appreciate your very kind words!
‘n Toeris gooi summier haar sigaret stompie daarin! Het haar kop afgebyt!
Is dit nie verstommend en walglik nie!
Jissie!
Gha… moet die stomme vrou tuis bly!
Toemaar Tina, Marilize kry binnekort n bederf nawekie (en ek dink sy was heel tevrede met n stil naweek alleen by die huis saam met haar leesboek!)
MMMMmmmm ek hou julle dop!
What was the fireside chat like?
I don’t think there was a topic we wouldn’t eventually have covered, Petru, but then a very welcome downpour brought an early end to the deep discussions around the bush-tv.
We had rain too. Too, too little.
Looks like a great trip!
It was awesome, thanks Sue!
Certainly a wonderful place and what a gift such a weekend away must have been for all of you.
That’s so true! I believe in today’s hectic life we need times like this to ensure our family bonds stay intact.
Good for the “boys” to get off on their own now and then. I hadn’t seen the sable before, a rather stunning creature.
These father+son escapes make for wonderful memories! And I agree, the sable is my favourite antelope!
Amazing, very well captured… 🙂
Almost looks like here in the Prairies 🙂
Thanks you Drake!
