What a great close up. I remember being amazed by these (or their East African near relations) when I was in the Serengeti many years ago.

Like everyone else, the intense eye grabbed my attention, but I am also taken by the complementary iridescent blue and turquoise of the plumage. Quite an attractive bird and photo of it.

And there’s no shortage of opportunities to see them up close, they’re so cheeky at the picnic spots in many of our Parks and reserves that they’ll steal your slaptjips out of your fingers!
