The markings on the buttocks and tails of impalas, resembling the logo of a well-known fast food chain, serve both to keep the herd together when they’re fleeing, and to confuse the pursuing predators, preventing them from singling out a specific individual.

“Symmetry” is the theme for this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge

Don’t think I’ll ever forget what the behind of an impala looks like after this very symmetrical post 🙂
Glad we could make an “impression” Gale!
😀
Clever idea for the theme!
Thank you Jane!

Love it…made me smile as soon as i saw your post and memories came back 🙂
By now you’re also very familiar with impalas, hey Woolly!?
Naaste is Wellington. Hamelton is omtrent 8 ure se ry van hier af!
Dan sal ek vir jou uitkyk op Wellington!
😀
I really like this photo.
Thank you Connie, and welcome!
So unusual for us! Your everyday! Nice thanks … Makes us warm
So glad you enjoy our different perspective on this precious planet, Hopeje!
Well, now, if that’s just not the most interesting! Just another way of saying things are not random! 😀
Thank you Linda! Indeed, everything in nature was designed with a place and a purpose.
Rooibokkies bly steeds een van my gunsteling bokke.Pragtige foto.
Dankie Dina! Ai ja, ons het ook n sagte plekkie vir die rooibokkies. Aan die een kant is dit jammer hulle is so volop in baie van ons wildreservate, so baie mense sien hulle amper nie eens raak nie…
Great choice! 🙂
Thank you Sylvia! And welcome here!
Forget about the fast food joint! How about a well prepared rooibok potjie?? 😉
Ek weet darem nie AJ, rooibokkies is darem soveel mooier as beeste en skape…
Ja… jy’s reg maar geen bees of skaap kan so lekker smaak nie!! Al vreet hulle die selfde kos nie! 😉
so sweet.
That they are Sedge. Poor things are the staple on the menu of all the large predators though, so being cute alone doesn’t quite cut it… Luckily they’re very fast and nimble, and excellent jumpers, which gives them at least a chance of escape.
Sorry to hear that.
But i suppose that is life in the wild.
Just like Mufasa explained to Simba 😉
Very interesting choice for symmetry…:)
Thank you Suyash
I had to look twice a this one–what a hoot! Such a fun post. An Impala was the first new car my dad bought when I was growing up. Navy blue and lovely.
Glad you liked it Lois, and that we could bring back some happy memories for you! I’d have loved to tour our game reserves in an impala!
Superbly clever idea for symmetry. Love this one 😉
Thank you Joey!
Wow, the photo of the road to the Cheese Farm could be any road here in the piney woods of Florida. It’s almost scary how much they look the same. Have a great weekend to all.
A clever thought for the challenge
Thanks Rob!
What fun! I like your MicD’s better than the one here.
janet
We aren’t exactly fans of theirs (the fast food chain) either, Janet 😉
I didn’t think so. 🙂
Great image and *interpretation*!
Thank you Meg!
Terrific, and thanks for including the interesting information!
Thank you for visiting de Wets Wild, Lola Jane, and welcome here!
That is fascinating information on the cute little impala bums!
Glad to know you liked it Barbara, thank you!
I love this. Awesome shot! 🙂
Thanks Eliz!
Ha, I bet McD’s get a kick out of this one! 🙂
Maybe they’ll sponsor our blog 😉
Welcome here!
or they can make a huge billboard out of your impalas!
😀
I didn’t know that before…and I drive an Impala. 😉
No kidding Jennifer! Do you have a picture of your car on your blog?
No I don’t. It’s black and it’s our third one!
How I’d love to be able to drive through the bush in an impala!!!!
Fantastic snap!
Thank you!
