      Welcome to de Wets Wild Pete! This particular lion was actually very relaxed, lying in deep shade. I guess their powerful facial expressions make them appear irritated even in repose. Your leopard and Good Book contributions to this weeks challenge are spot-on!

    You have so many wonderful photos of African wildlife. Since I will be making my own first safari next summer, I am wondering what kind of camera equipment to bring. They say to travel light. What do you suggest? I have a DSLR camera with an extra 55-300mm zoom lens.

       Thanks for the kind words Rosemarie! I’m sure you’re looking forward to your safari with great anticipation! Will you be including South Africa in your itinerary?

       We used a DSLR with 70-300mm lens for most of the animal shots on de Wets Wild, and nothing more powerful than that. I also carry a small 35mm compact camera with a 6x optical zoom along for landscape shots, mostly because I don’t want to change lenses on the DSLR out in the dusty African wilds. I hope that knowing what we use helps your planning?

          Thank you so much for the advice. It sounds like I can use what I already have, because I also have a small point and shoot that I could use for landscape photos. My port of entry into Africa will be Johannesburg, but my safari is in Botswana. I will be spending a few days at the start as a tourist in Cape Town, and then a day at Victoria Falls before I return home. I have never before set foot in Africa and I am very excited about my trip.
