What an awesome experience, witnessing one of Hluhluwe-Imfolozi’s wild dog packs hunt and kill! We’ll share more photos in an upcoming post.

We were astounded by the prolific tree-climbing skills of Imfolozi’s lions, and how well such big cats can camouflage themselves in the tops of even rather small trees.

The sunrise over Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park on Christmas morning was particularly beautiful 😀

We hope all our friends here at de Wets Wild had a lovely Christmas Day.
Today we moved “camp” again, to Mpila in the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, our country’s oldest reserve and one of our firm favourites. This little white rhinoceros seemed particularly pleased that Christmas eve has finally arrived!

We also would like to wish all our friends here at de Wets Wild a blessed and merry Christmas!
An osprey takes flight over the Western Shores of Lake St. Lucia

Inclement weather put an early end to our plans to walk the Ligwalagwala Trail in St. Lucia this morning. We were as disappointed as this vervet monkey mother and her baby seemed to be.

Morning rush hour at Kumasinga; nyalas and impalas jostling for position at the waterhole.

Already a week into our summer holiday in the bush, and we’re still enjoying it to the full!

This morning we departed from Ithala and headed here to uMkhuze Game Reserve, part of the greater iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site. And what a welcome; encountering two of the reserve’s lionesses on a guided night drive!

The giraffe is Ithala’s emblem, and this morning we were treated to several up-close sightings of these elegant animals.
