We started our day with a bit of bird-watching in camp, and opted to only go out for an afternoon drive much later, following a circuitous route around the S125 and S126 roads south of Satara – a drive Joubert suggested, by the way, again yielding great results in terms of sightings!

Really enjoyed your diverse gallery of beautiful creatures! The Hoopoe is the national bird of Israel and we see them there often – such a unique and interesting-looking bird.
They’re a familiar favourite here as well that we can never tire of either!
Another gorgeous gallery. Is that a spider on the bill of the chagra? And that diederic cuckoo is really lovely, although it is difficult to single out any particular photo!
Thanks very much, Carol.
It is in fact an engorged tick clinging onto the Chagra’s beak, would you believe!?
That is rather incredible!
Wow, again! Thanks, D. 🙂
Thanks for accompanying us on our Kruger trip, H.J – it was so nice having you along!
That is a baby Ellie underneath the mamas? The hoopoe is a very pretty bird. Great directions, Joubert–beautiful photos! Happy New Year to you all!
Happy 2020 to you as well, Lois!
Yep, baby elephants often sleep soundly flat on their sides while their mothers keep watch over them.
Oh the baby elephant! Love these shots. Thank you! Happy new year
And to you as well, thank you Sandra!
Another great post, China
Thank you kindly!
What a wonderful way to bring 2019 to a close. I look forward to reading about more of your adventures in 2020 and hope it will be a year of joy for you and your family.
Thank you so much, Anne. May 2020 be a year to remember for you as well, for all the most beautiful reasons!
