While walking along the edge of the Tsitsikamma forests at Storms River Mouth Rest Camp today, Joubert and I came across a very brave Southern Boubou tangling with a deadly venomous Boomslang. The bird succeeded in driving the snake away, apparently none the worse for the encounter.

Ek het nou hier uitgekom en gelees wat gebeur het. Wat ‘n fantastiese ervaring om dit te kon aanskou, Dries!
Iets wat ek en Joubert nog vir baie lank sal onthou, dis verseker!
Ah, got the answer here to the riddle and glad to see the boubou survived the encounter.
I think both of them were quite lucky to have come through the encounter unscathed!
Oooh! (Ps I voted for you)
Thank you very, very much!
What a great action shot! Please tell me you had your mega zoom lens on!
We were about 3m (10ft?) away from the action, Kathy!
What a fantastic encounter to see and photograph. I am glad the boubou survived it!
We count ourselves very lucky indeed, Kim!
You know I was going to have to ask how the bird fared. Thank you so much for a happy ending!
It could have ended nasty for either or both the combatants.
Great shot! And I just voted for you. Merry Christmas! 😊
Thank you very much, and a Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones as well, Audrey!
The names of the bird and snake seem so strange to my ears, but the little bird brave for sure.
Indeed a scene that can be understood in any language
Wow! Boomslang is a shy snake, great photographed! 😊
Thanks John. Shy indeed, but actually very common. I must have passed at least a 1000 of them for every one I managed to see…
Nice job! I hope that was a telephoto lens on the camera.
Thanks Steve. We were about 3m from the action!
Very brave!
Wow!
Slaan mens se asem weg!
Yikes! Couldn’t show my hubby this photo, imagine a cartoon character that jumps into the air and legs start spinning and they shoot off warp speed! lol.. needless to say, snakes aren’t his favorite critter!
Happy Holidays to you and yours! 🙂
😀
Merry Christmas, Teresa!
