The beautiful Gemsbok is just one of several antelope species that find sanctuary here at the Karoo National Park, and is one of the most frequently observed large mammals out on the reserve’s extensive network of drives.

Beautiful animals.
Undoubtedly, Maralee!
The Gemsbok is truly a magnificent animal. I have seen them in small herds and in pairs at Kalahari Gemsbok national park, but that was way back in 1993!
Now this is one animal you would never expect to see in KZN, right Kim?
Unfortunately, true!
Very beautiful animal! 🙂 I have seen it in tv many times, but of course never live. A trip to South Africa with safari is number one on my list of countries I want to visit, but it´s much expensive for me, about 6000$ for two weeks.
It will be money well spent, John. Of that I can assure you. And we can always help you with advice on more economical accommodation options once you start planning!
Gemsbokke maak die wonderlikste komposisies. (Duidelik kry julle nie maklik agoraphobia nie ;0).)
Nee Tannie Frannie, die vrye natuur is omtrent al plek waar ons waarlik tuis voel!
Such an interesting animal 🙂
Perfectly adapted to its arid environment, Cayenne.
Those are some serious horns, but they seems to be pointed in a less-than-easily-lethal position. 🙂

Even lions are wary of those horns, Janet – the owners can wield them as well as any sword fighter!
