White rhino bulls use dung middens to communicate their presence and demarcate their territories. They’ll also kick around in the middens to transfer the scent onto their feet and then spread it throughout their stomping grounds, communicating their ownership to interlopers.

Dung middens – just learned a new word 🙂
That’s brilliant, glad we could help expand your vocabulary, Annette! 😀
Someone surely has thought of a dictionary of scatology? 🙂
I agree, Annette! There must be so many euphemisms in use 😀
What a privilege to see this animal close by
Absolutely, Joan! Long may they continue to roam our wild places.
A beautiful and regal creature.
Very true Janet, and worthy of all the effort going into their protection!
And more!!
Lovely creatures!
Indeed!
how interesting that they do this….
and wonderful collage
Thank you kindly!
🙂
Woah! I’d just buy a new pair of shoes if that happened to me 😣
Luckily we have other methods of bragging about our status…
I wonder if they give each other “likes”.
They certainly respect the owner of the territory!
Whoa. That is one big mark, eh?
Their dung middens can become really huge, Lois, seeing as they’re used almost daily, year-in and year-out.
so many interesting things I learn from you! Thanks so much.
We get so excited about our wild places, Lois and we love sharing them with you!
