   In this photo, the skin looks like a beautiful beadwork. Very interesting. I noticed that when they are in the water their skin looks green and yellow, but in this photo it is brown. Does it change depending on the environment?

      Actually the brightness of their markings diminishes as they grow older, Marianne. The really old monitor lizards have almost no markings at all.
