Feeling small in the Drakensberg

This mountain, the arched back of the earth risen before us, it made me feel humble, like a beggar, just lucky to be here at all, even briefly.” (Bridget Asher)

Do the mountains have the same profound impact on you as it does for us?

These mountains, which have seen untold sunrises, long to thunder praise but stand reverent, silent so that man’s weak praise should be given God’s attention.” (Donald Miller)

Each one of these photos captures something essential about this especially wonderful place. Years back we lived in Ladysmith for a time, and each weekend saw us day tripping to walk in the Berg with the Tendele area being our favourite place to visit.

All very familiar scenes to me – it was like returning to that tranquil spot for a moment. Clean air, the scent of damp vegetation, the tinkling of water, the herby smell of plants crushed underfoot – and the majestic scenery.

Haha, dis waar. Ek was so drie jaar moontlik vier jaar terug in Nelson. Ek hoop jou Tannie is gelukkig daar(dink sy sal wees)

I lived for 20 years in Indiana where the land is flat as a pancake as far as the eye can see. Driving down the highway made me feel as though I was going to fall of the edge of the earth. LOL I missed the mountains of my home in Southern Appalachia so much, and we’ve been back here now for over 20 years (I’m old, haha!). Our house is surrounded by hills, and the actual mountains can be seen out of the upstairs windows. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, except nearer to our daughter who lives in a similar setting about 3 hours drive away.
