Ever get the feeling that your kindness is being abused, Mr. Hippo? Just asking…
This temporary island being used (abused really, don’t you think?) by sunbathing Marsh and Serrated Hinged Terrapins was seen at the Kruger National Park‘s Nwaswitshaka Waterhole on the S65 road between Skukuza and Pretoriuskop in May 2019.
Love it! ❤️

I can sympathise with that hippo… but hey, all he has to do is sink… if I tried to sink to get the freeloaders off my back I’d drown!! Wha ha ha!!

Maybe just sinking isn’t the answer – sink and swim to another spot before surfacing again seems to be the way to go!

I wonder if that’s considered a back massage.

Having someone scratch your back sure is one of life’s little delights, isn’t it Montucky?

This is kind of a funny photo. Easy enough for the hippo to clear the island when it’s ready though, simply submerge.

Absolutely! Question is why doesn’t he? Is it out of kindness, or laziness?

Let’s just go with kindness 🙂

A delightful portrait of animal behaviour. I would title it “There is room for one more.”

Dis ‘n kostelike foto, Dries! As daardie eiland sak, is dit elke skilpad vir homself!😄😄

You know I love these guys–they are right up there with the elephants as my favorites of all the photos you post. This is a riot! But that is one heck of a lot of turtles….

Especially for you, Lois! ❤
Amazing that hippos can be so cantankerous, and yet this big guy is tolerating such blatant exploitation!

Ah yes, I see that wildlife behaviours does not differ so much from humans sometimes… 🙂

Thankfully maliciousness and greed isn’t the driving force where animals are concerned; that’s “humans only” territory…
Thanks for visiting, Takami!

You are very right indeed. I want to keep hope that some of us will try to maintain some “humanity.” 🙂 Wishing you and your family a lovely weekend ahead.
