I’ve just returned from a quick three-night solo visit to the Kruger National Park, and have some really memorable sightings to share with you. As the three of us will be heading back to Kruger again later in the month for a longer visit, I’ll be keeping you in suspense till we return – here though a little teaser-gallery just to wet your appetite for things to come!

Ek glo dit. Moet deel: ‘n white-tailed mongoose in die tuin gesien hier twee aande terug. Eers nie geweet watse dier dit was nie. Dank vader vir die internet. Was laat, ek hoor die geritsel in die blare en sou dit gelos het behalwe my kat was die keer baie ontsteld, toe staan ek op om te kyk. Dis baie spesiaal!

‘n Foto van die internet af gekry Dries. Daar’s g’n manier dat my klein kameratjie, ieder die digital of the foon kamera die dier sou kon afneem nie. Ek het die flits op dit geskyn gehad maar dit sou nie gehelp het nie. Wat my verbaas het, dit het bly eet aan die stukkie avo wat die ape gelos het, en so ewe kortdaad oor die grasperk gestap, asof hy nie omgegee het om dopgehou te word nie.

Dis baie ongewoon dat hy so rustig is – hy is natuurlik al lankal in die geheim daar rondom julle gewees sonder dat julle hom opgemerk het. Ek het verlede naweek een in Pretoriuskop kamp in die Wildtuin gesien terwyl ek vir my aand stappies gegaan het, maar hy het elke keer laat spaander sodra hy agterkom hy’s gewaar.

Ek dink dis oor hy so ongestoord kon rondbeweeg. Net die vier huise wat bewoon is hier en saans is mense meesal binne, veral nou in die winter. Ek het gereeld die geritsel gehoor en partykeer gewonder maar dit afgemaak aan ‘n rondloperkat.

Ek waardeer hoe jy die klein en fyn net soveel in ag neem as die groot en amper sê ek broos. (Te lank wat ek ryme oefen!) Smiles.

A teaser indeed – you make me want to get into our bakkie and go man go! WHAT a wonderful variety of pictures you have here – a lovely change from only the the big and hairy. So many butterflies, and those fish!

I have a special post lined up just for the butterflies, Anne – the Lowveld Bittertea-bushes were in flower at Skukuza and Pretoriuskop and I managed to get photos of no less than 28 species of butterflies flitting around them!
