The floral splendour of Golden Gate

There is only one way to truly appreciate the amazing diversity and breathtaking beauty of the flowers that occur in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, and that is on any or all of the Park’s walking trails. This is a gallery of just some of the fragile blooms we enjoyed while exploring the Park during our December bush holidays.

We’ll be dedicating upcoming installments of de Wets Wild to three of Golden Gate’s easiest walking trails.

Lovely. Some of these are very similar to Australian wild flowers, shared ancestry I guess from when it was all Gondwana.

Die klein juweeltjies van die veld is pragtig. Die suurtjies laat my terugdink aan kindertyd toe ons dit geëet het. Dis so suur jy moet jou gesig trek.

When I’m walking outdoors in nature’s splendor, it’s so easy to overlook the little unobstrusive flowers. As always, your photos are beautiful and a reminder to occasionally notice the small details 🙂

That’s so true Joanne! When you find yourself in a grand landscape, like Golden Gate, it is so easy to keep marvelling upwards at the majesty that towers over you that the small things at our feet pass unnoticed.

These are from our trip to Golden Gate around New Year M-R. Golden Gate was our final destination of seven on our three week December holidays; we’ve been sharing highlights of that trip since January.

Very nice post guys; we love the wildflowers and learned to appreciated them as an important part of life in the bush. It’s not always about the ‘hairiest and scariest’ as you mentioned in an earlier post indeed – and with many rich biodiversity hotspots SA has an extremely rich plant life. Looking forward seeing more!
