We spent another day on the Kruger National Park today, entering for a day visit through the Orpen Gate.
Only a few kilometers into the Park, we met with the King and Queen of the Beasts on their honeymoon…

Great series. In the Kruger NP can you travel in your own car or must you engage a driver in a safari vehicle?

The Kruger is an ideal self-drive safari destination: almost 2000km of well maintained, signposted roads connecting the camps, picnic sites and viewpoints, with a selection of high quality maps available to ensure that no one can get lost. The National Parks offer guided two- or three hour drives during times that self-drive visitors would normally be prevented from travelling (before dawn and after sunset). When we visit we like to combine these options – drive ourselves around during daylight hours and then join an organised night drive every now and then. But if you have the budget, there are private operators that will take you around on guided, open vehicle drives during the day. I prefer choosing my own route and en-route stops and have never made use of their services.
